Terms of Service

The Service is for NYC middle school students preparing for the SHSAT and for parents or legal guardians who create and manage accounts on their behalf.

• You must be 18+ to create an account, or have verifiable parental consent if under 13
• You are responsible for your credentials and all activity under your account
• You agree to provide accurate information and keep it updated
• You may not share accounts or create accounts for others without their consent

Free access

We offer free access to the diagnostic and limited features. Free features may change or end without notice.

Paid subscriptions

Some features require a paid monthly subscription as described on our pricing page.

• Automatic renewal: Paid access is a recurring monthly subscription. By subscribing, you authorize SHSATlab to charge your payment method the then-current price each month automatically until you cancel.
• Cancellation: Cancel anytime in account settings (Settings → Billing) or by emailing hello@shsatlab.com. Cancellation applies at the end of the billing period; no prorated refunds for unused time.
• Refunds: First-time subscribers may request a 7-day refund within 7 days of the initial charge. After that, charges are non-refundable except where required by law.
• Price changes: We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice to your account email. Continued use after the change means acceptance.
• Founding member rate: The first 200 members who subscribe during the beta keep their founding monthly rate ($9.99/month) and are not subject to the general price increase, for as long as their subscription remains continuously active. If a founding member cancels and later resubscribes, the then-current price applies.

You agree not to:

• Copy, scrape, or redistribute SHSATlab content without written permission
• Reverse-engineer or extract our source code or AI content systems
• Use the Service commercially or resell access
• Disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
• Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation
• Use bots or scrapers without our written consent

Questions, passages, study plans, AI tutor responses, logos, and design are owned by SHSATlab or licensors and protected by copyright and other laws.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license for personal, non-commercial educational use only. These Terms do not transfer ownership to you.

“SHSAT” and “Specialized High Schools Admissions Test” belong to the NYC Department of Education. SHSATlab is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the NYC DOE or any specialized high school.

SHSATlab uses AI for practice questions, passages, and tutor responses. We work to ensure quality, but AI content may occasionally contain errors. We do not warrant that AI content is accurate or complete.

AI content supplements — does not replace — thorough SHSAT preparation. Results vary by student.

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, including COPPA protections for users under 13.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, commit fraud, or misuse the Service. You may close your account anytime by contacting hello@shsatlab.com.

These Terms are governed by New York State law. Disputes will be resolved in state or federal courts in New York County, New York.

We may update these Terms and will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date means you accept the revised Terms.
