About Brooklyn Technical High School
Brooklyn Technical High School is the largest of NYC's eight specialized high schools with approximately 6,100 students — nearly double the next largest school. Founded in 1922 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Tech offers something no other specialized school does: a declared major system with 18 STEM and engineering disciplines, including aerospace engineering, architecture, biochemistry, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and media arts. Students declare their major in sophomore year and spend the rest of high school building genuine depth in that field. The school's size means it offers a vast range of AP courses, electives, extracurriculars, and student organizations — over 100 clubs ranging from robotics to finance to film production. Two alumni have won Nobel Prizes. The school has one of NYC's most successful FIRST Robotics teams. Brooklyn Tech's diverse student body reflects Brooklyn itself: students arrive from every neighborhood, creating one of the most demographically varied student populations in the specialized high school system. The location in Fort Greene puts students near downtown Brooklyn and accessible from almost anywhere in the borough.
